Process versus Software Tool Training for CMII/IPE Users

This white paper is for those using the CMII model to achieve enterprise-wide configuration management (eCM) and integrated process excellence (IPE). Its purpose is to address and resolve the issue of process training versus tool training. Although users need both, some believe that the process is built into the tool, and tool training is all the user needs. The CMII/IPE model is ideal for demonstrating why this belief is not true. The CMII/IPE model is comprised of 19 core business processes and 225 operating standards. Of the 225, only 100 can benefit from enabling software tools. Of the 100 tool requirements, 40 are mandatory. All 40 reside in the eCM domain.
