CMII-01: The CMII and IPE Model

This course describes the CMII approach to integrated process excellence and how to overcome the limitations of traditional configuration management. There are no prerequisites, although experience with documentation and changes makes it easier to understand how to apply the concepts. Those with extensive experience in configuration management-related activities will find this course combines all of their lessons learned into one cohesive model. That model was given a name in 1988 — CMII.

This course will describe what it means for an organization to operate in the corrective action mode. It will describe the magnitude of the intervention resources being spent on corrective action by most organizations. It will show that the root causes for corrective action stem from deficiencies in requirements. It will also show that deficiencies in requirements stem from deficiencies in the change and document validation processes. This course will describe the process improvements needed to overcome those deficiencies.
